Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Dr Xand van Tulleken on the Challenges of Healthier Living

Seven simple strategies that will transform our diet and our health

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is one of Britain’s best loved chefs. The presenter of the River Cottage television series and author of numerous bestselling cookbooks, he is also a tireless campaigner on food and environmental issues. In this special Intelligence Squared event in January 2021 he was joined by Dr Xand van Tulleken, the television doctor, to talk about the themes of his new book, Eat Better Forever.

Instead of the usual quick-fix fad diets the book offers seven simple strategies that will transform our diet and our health – including sorting the good carbs from the bad, looking after our gut, and being mindful of when to eat and when to pause. The conversation also tackled some of the biggest challenges we face today: What can be done to improve the nation’s terrible diet which underlies the obesity crisis, costs the NHS billions and shortens countless lives? How can we cut down on food waste? And how can we all learn to live in better health and harmony with the world around us?
