Assistant Producer – Weekly Visualised Current Affairs Podcast

  • Part-time, 3 days per week
  • Regular recording days in London and an office in Holborn
  • £30,000 to £35,000 depending on experience, pro-rated to 3 days/week
  • Start date 27th April. Closing date: Rolling, apply ASAP

We are looking for an Assistant Producer to support the production of an existing visualised talent-led weekly politics and current affairs podcast. This show has been running for multiple years, so you would not be building an audience from scratch, but still has so much room to grow.

This is a varied role for someone who is highly organised, editorially curious, and confident working across the practical and creative demands of a fast-turnaround weekly show. You will support guest booking and logistics, help prepare the team and presenters for recording, and play a key role in keeping the production running smoothly from planning through to release.

You will also own post-production, including audio finishing and delivery, so it is essential to have fast, accurate audio editing skills. You will work closely with the senior producer and digital producer to help ensure the show is accurate, well-organised and ready to publish on time.

Most importantly, this role will suit someone who lives and breathes front pages. But who also enjoys being at the centre of a production, is interested in developing their editorial skills, and takes real satisfaction in making complex things run well. This role will suit someone who enjoys the mix of editorial support and practical production that sits behind a successful weekly show. You will be comfortable switching between logistics, guest coordination, research and post-production support, and you will take pride in helping a team deliver consistently strong work under deadline.

You might already be working in audio, radio, podcasts, digital production or current affairs, and be looking for a role with more responsibility and room to grow.

Politics is a fast moving world, and so you must be comfortable occasionally working outside of regular working hours should the need arise.

The role

You will:

  • Support the planning and delivery of a weekly politics and current affairs podcast
  • Research guests, contributors and topics, and assist with briefing materials
  • Help identify, approach and coordinate guest bookings
  • Manage production logistics including schedules, call times and contributor communication
  • Support the preparation of scripts, running orders and briefing notes
  • Assist on recording days, helping ensure sessions run smoothly and to time
  • Edit and tidy audio for release, or support the final audio workflow as needed
  • Help prepare show notes, metadata and other publishing materials
  • Work closely with the senior producer and digital producer to keep the production on schedule
  • Support ad-read administration and other production coordination as required
  • Contribute ideas and editorial input where appropriate

About You

You will have:

  • Experience on the production of podcasts, radio, video or other editorial content
  • Fast, accurate audio editing skills on adobe audition, and confidence in basic mixing, cleaning of audio and bouncing
  • Strong organisational skills and close attention to detail
  • Confidence managing logistics and communicating clearly with contributors and colleagues
  • Good editorial instincts and an interest in politics, news or current affairs
  • Experience booking guests or coordinating contributors
  • Experience writing briefing notes, running orders or production copy
  • The ability to work calmly and accurately to tight deadlines
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to work across different parts of the production process
  • Good judgement, reliability and a practical mindset
