Speakers: Michael Gove
Michael Gove MP (Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families) outlines the deteriorating state of education in Britain and presents Conservative policy on education reform. Citing the widening gap in the quality of education offered by state schools and private schools, he argues for a return to a subect-based education in Britain, suggesting that education in Britain today favours teaching abstract thinking rather than developing knowledge bases. He also suggests that the curriculum, along with examinations, have been made too easy.
His, and the Conservative party's, solution is radical, long-term reform of education, including such measures as turning failing schools into academies, and giving parents greater freedom of choice over the schools they want their children to attend.
