Saran Renewable Energy in India has set up a biomass gasifying plant in Bihar to supply energy to local businesses plagued by constant electricity cuts and reliant on noisy, dirty diesel generators. One hundred local farmers now have a secure income supplying the plant with biomass made from a local plant. These farmers along with businesses nearby, now have stable, clean power for eight hours a day. The gasifier saves around 100 tonnes of CO2 a year from diesel.
