Speakers: Martin Parr
Martin Parr discusses his exhibition Parrworld, showing at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Part of the exhibition comprises Parr's collection of objects, from Margaret Thatcher and Mining strike plates from the 1980s, to Saddam Hussein watches and Osama bin Laden rugs. Some of Parr's favourites are the Obama objects, such as Coca-Cola bottles, cereals, and underwear, which he selected from the 18,000 Obama objects on eBay in January 2009. Parr explains his belief in the importance of both high and low-culture, a juxtaposition that his exhibition aims to explore.
