Speakers: Leon Lederman
Leon Lederman discusses his life, from his early career as physicist, to the later fruition of his discoveries. Before he began his career in science, he served in the army during the Second World War, and here he describes how he stuggled with the transition between the two careers.
Turning to his career in physics, Lederman recounts his experience, as a graduate student at Columbia University, of meeting Albert Einstein, a novel and unique event that made a deep impression on him. Whilst studying for his PhD he also met the physicist Gilberto Bernardini, who he describes as a curious scientist, because his wonderment with the world was unceasing. Lederman explains how, like Bernardini, he is filled with a deep curiosity about the world. He describes experiments he has conducted and the appreciation he and his colleagues have for the joy that can be found in physics. Finally, Lederman turns to the Science Academy in Illinois, his interest in passing on his knowledge and curiosity to younger people, and the inspiration that is derived from it.
