Speakers: HRH Prince of Wales
His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales stresses the need to embrace sustainable technologies in order to secure the future of the world – a future which is threatened by the diminishing capabilities of the planet, the rapidly expanding global population, and the threat of climate change. He praises the part that the Ashden Awards have played in setting up local sustainability projects, noting how localised projects add up to global change, and citing Germany – a country on track to meet its Kyoto Protocal deadlines – as a positive example of how sustainability and economic growth can go hand in hand. The Prince of Wales also argues that we should not pin all of our hopes on 'massive and risky' technical fixes, but that we should work in harmony with nature and rediscover forgotten environmental and agricultural techniques.
