Speakers: Felipe Fernández-Armesto
Felipe Fernández-Armesto makes the case for the year 1492 being a fundamental turning point in world history. In his opinion, it marked the reversal of years of evolutionary progress by the first global explorers, and also sparked the spread of the major religions across the globe. He also discusses the study of Creole languages and what they reveal about the cultural practices of these oppressed societies. Lastly, Fernández-Armesto talks about his well-publicised arrest for jay-walking in Atlanta, and praises the American justice system, despite his rough treatment.
