Speakers: Sarah Harper
Professor Sarah Harper discusses the work of the Oxford Institute of Ageing. As Professor Harper explains, the UN has deemed global population ageing the second greatest challenge facing the world in the 21st century; the first is climate change.
Here, she explains how falling average fertility rates and increasing longevity are leading to ageing populations all over the world. The greater proportion of elderly individuals will eventually place a great demand on society's resources, and Professor Harper briefly outlines what can be done to plan for this future. Many problems, she explains, are policy-based, and the institute can work with governments to solve them.
