The value of Higher Education - Professor Geoffrey Crossick response

24 Jun 2009

Speakers: Geoffrey Crossick

Professor Geoffrey Crossick argues for the immense value of Higher Education and the importance of research for everyone's sake. He expresses his concern that the arts and humanities in higher education may be perceived as a luxury and explains that society needs the broad education which universities provide; highlighting the importance of the liberal arts.

He explains how the liberal arts are forces for community cohesion and ultimately a unifying force for the democratisation of culture. Research from universities reaches the public through museums and galleries, creating a creative economy and spreading the cultural riches of higher education.
