Speakers: David Sandalow
David Sandalow discusses the problems inherent in the world's dependency on oil, and the various measures that can be taken, and the technologies being developed, to ease the transition to the production and implementation of cleaner energy sources.
He cites transport as the most significant obstacle that has to be surmounted in order to alleviate the threat of global warming and the earth's dwindling resources, and examines four new technologies: electrical transport, biofuels, increased fuel efficiency, and mass transport and telecommuting schemes.
He also discusses the problems of establishing the infrastructure that will have to be solved once more people begin using technologies such as 'plug-in' or hydrogen-fuelled cars.
