Intelligence Squared is known for staging debates on controversial topics and now we are opening up our multimedia back catalogue to schools and other academic bodies through Institutional Membership.
Teachers can now use the debates at the centre of issues to introduce students to a new topic or to help them gain a more advanced understanding. Video, audio and written content can be used in the classroom or can be set as homework material.
There is a special introductory price of Institutional Membership for £500 ($750) in the first year. This will give premium access to everyone who logs on to the IQ² website from your school. Individual premium accounts now cost £60, so the saving is quite considerable.
* Live stream IQ² events in your classroom or lecture hall – watch live and have your questions asked to the panel at over 15 events per year. More information on our IQ² Institutional Live Streaming page.
* Show videos from the back catalogue of live debates to a group of students and use written debates as an introduction to areas of study. Audio and video debates can be watched straight from the site and - if you let us know which debates you would like - downloaded for ease of use.
* Full access to the brand new section 'Today's Hot Topic, so your students can stay on top of the arguments that matter now. There are bite-size bits of video and audio and a text introduction, with links to full-length videos and written debates, which are only available to members.
* Learning resources created specifically for students – The education micro-site is an example of the kind of page which we are developing subject by subject across the curriculum.
The Learning through Debate micro-site gives a taste of the range of educational content available on the IQ² website. Our intention is to map out a wide range of individual subjects each with their own micro-site designed specifically for teachers and students.
You can also download our PDF which gives an overview to teachers, faculty heads and head teachers as to why IQ² is a great addition to a school or department. Please send it on to anyone else who you think will be interested.
At the Middle East peace process debate on September 21st 2010, we launched an Institutional Live Streaming service. A great opportunity for your school to take part in our events as they happen – please go to the IQ² Institutional Live Streaming page for more information. If you are interested in a particular event, we can provide a higher quality live stream on a bespoke basis, rather than as part of an Institutional Membership.
The first participant in an Institutional Live Stream was ISIME at University of Denver, Colorado. 50 students and 25 people from the surrounding community watched the Middle East peace process debate.
"To hear such an impressive panel live was a rare and wonderful opportunity...In all it was a rousing success."
Deborah Schleuter, Interim Director of ISIME
If you are a teacher, you can sign up for a free trial in order to see how an Institutional Membership could benefit your school or department. We will give you free Institutional Membership for a month, so you can decide whether an Institutional Membership is right for you.
