Businessman and entrepreneur
Sir David Tang is the founder of Shanghai Tang, the international clothing company. He also founded the China Clubs (Hong Kong, Beijing and Singapore), Havana House and Pacific Co Ltd. More recently Tang opened Cipriani in Hong Kong and the China Tang restaurant at the Dorchester Hotel.
He has been Non-Executive Director of First Pacific Company Ltd. since 1989, serves as Independent Director at GCL Silicon Technology Holdings Inc. and as Member of the Advisory Boards of Blackstone Group and British Airways. He serves as Director of two publicly-listed Companies in Hong Kong and as an Advisor to a number of other companies based in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Tang served as Independent Non-Executive Director of Lai Sun Development Co. Ltd. until June 16, 2008. He holds Hong Kong Directorships on the Boards of Free Duty Limited. London directorships include the Boards of Asprey Limited and Garrard Limited and the International Advisory Board of The Savoy Group of Hotels of London. He served as Director of Tommy Hilfiger Corp. from 2003 to 2005.
Tang charity work includes founding and chairing the Hong Kong Cancer Fund and Down’s Syndrome Association. He is also a contributory writer to Hong Kong newspaper Daily Apple and serves as a trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts. He was appointed KBE in the 2008 New Year Honours and was decorated with the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Artes et des Lettres in France in 1995.
