Columnist on The Guardian
Polly Toynbee is a journalist and writer. She began her career at the Guardian before moving to the BBC, where she worked as Social Affairs Editor from 1988 to 1995. She then became a columnist at the Independent, before moving back to the Guardian as a columnist in 1998. She has also written for the Observer.
Toynbee became President of the Humanist Association in 2007, the same year that she was named Columnist of the Year at the Press Awards. She also won the Political Journalist of the Year Award in 2003. Some of her most recent books are Better or Worse: Has Labour Delivered? (2005), Hard Work: Life in Low-Pay Britain (2003), and Unjust Rewards: Exposing the Greed and Inequality in Britain Today (2008, with David Walker).
