Chariman of Network Myanmar
Chairman of Network Myanmar since 2007. Derek Tonkin worked in the UK Diplomatic Service from 1952 to 1989, specialising in South East Asian and East European affairs. He was Ambassador to Vietnam 1980-82, Minister at the British Embassy in South Africa 1983-1986 and Ambassador to Thailand and Laos 1986-89. He was Chairman of the Beta Viet Nam Fund 1993-1999 and Chairman of the Beta Mekong Fund 1994-2000, and has been director and adviser to various companies since 1990, including John Laing International, Beta GEM Investment Trust, Vietnam Investment Fund (Singapore), Euro-Thai Investments, Palais Angkor S.A. and Thai Partners International Ltd.
Tonkin was Co-founder and first Chairman of the Vietnam-Britain Business Association, Chairman of the Thai-Britain Business Association 1990-1994 and Chairman and Director of Ockenden International refugee charity 1990-2003.
