Economist and author
Joseph Stiglitz is a leading expert on economics. He obtained a PhD from MIT, before embarking on an academic career that saw him teach at Yale, Princeton, MIT, and Stanford. He has also previously held the position of Drummond Professor at the University of Oxford, and is currently University Professor at the Columbia University in New York. He is co-founder and Executive Director for Initiative of Policy Dialogue at Columbia and co-authored the Report of the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (1995). He was asked by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to chair the Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress in 2008, and was appointed as Chair of the Commission of Experts on Reform of the International Financial and Monetary System by the President of the United Nations General Assembly.
Stiglitz is also author of a number of books, including Globalisation and its Discontents (2002) which was translated into 35 languages, and Making Globalisation Work (2006). His latest book, co-authored with Linda Bilmes, is The Three Trillion Dollar War: The True Cost of the Conflict in Iraq (2008).
