Professor of International Law, UCL
Phillipe Sands is a Professor of International Law at University College London, and a barrister with Matrix Chambers. He has also been a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Toronto, Melbourne, and the Sorbonne, and has held academic positions at institutions such as the School of Oriental and African Studies, King's College London, and New York University.
Sands is also co-founder of the Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development (FIELD), and is a member of the advisory boards for the Journal of International Law and Review of European Community and International Environmental Law. He regularly contributes to the BBC, CNN, and a number of newspapers. His books include Lawless World: America and the Making and Breaking of Global Rules (2005) and Torture Team: Cruelty, Deception and the Compromise of Law (2008).
