Norman Stone is Professor of International Relations at Bilkent University, Ankara. He was previously Professor of Modern History at Oxford University from 1984-1997. He has been a frequent commentator, since 1985, in the British and international press and wrote a regular column for the Sunday Times from 1987-1992. Professor Stone was also Margaret Thatcher's foreign policy adviser on Europe, as well as her speech writer. His books include Hitler (1989) and World War I: A Short History (2007), and his latest book is Turkey: A Short History.
