British Labour Party politician, Chairman of the Environment Agency
After graduating from Cambridge in 1972, Lord Smith began his career as a Labour politician, working first as a councillor, then as MP for Islington South and Finsbury, before taking up the post of Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, whic he held until 2001. He is a Visiting Professor in Culture and the Creative Industries at the University of the Arts London, an honorary Fellow of Pembroke College Cambridge, and Chairman of the Environment Agency.
