Labour MP for Birmingham Edgbaston
Gisela Stuart was educated in what was then West Germany where she served an apprenticeship in Bookselling. After Business Studies in Manchester she got a law degree from London University. She ran the London Book Fair in the 1980s, and then became a lecturer. She did research into pension law at Birmingham University. Elected to Parliament in 1997 Gisela has been PPS in the Home Office, a Minister in the Department of Health, Parliamentary representative in the Convention on the Future of Europe, has sat for two terms on the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, and is now a member of the Defence Select Committee. She wrote the Fabian pamphlet The Making of Europe’s Constitution, and is editor of the weekly parliamentary political magazine The House.
