Founder, New Local Government Network
Gerry Stoker has advised UK government and the Council of Europe on local government issues for over a decade. He founded the New Local Government Network in 1996, which was named UK think tank of the year in 2004. Stoker is Director of the Centre for Citizenship and Democracy in Southampton, an organisation that aims to support research into citizenship and democratic politics. He is also Professor of Politics and Governance at the University of Southampton, and has authored or edited over 20 books, including Why Politics Matters which won the 2006 political book of the year award from the Political Studies Association of the UK.
