Independent Curator and Editor for West and Central Asia, Art Asia Pacific Magazine
Sara Raza is the Central and West Asia editor of ArtAsiaPacific, and remains actively involved as one of the main editors of the 17-year old publication dedicated to contemporary art from Asia. As editor of ArtAsiaPacific, she frequently writes on contemporary art from the Indian Subcontinent, including India, Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as Central and West Asian countries, such as Kazkhstan, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
In addition, Raza has co-curated the 2nd Bishkek International in Kyrgyzstan and has subsequently been an advisor since 2006 to Goldsmiths College MFA Creative Curating research group “Overland: London to Beijing,” on regional museum and curatorial practice. A former curator of public programmes at Tate Modern (2006-08) she chaired, taught and programmed several education events on contemporary art practice, with a focus on international art, performance and architecture. Previously she worked as an editor in Berlin at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and Asia Society in New York. Raza has also presented papers on contemporary art at Sharjah Biennial, (UAE), ZKM (Germany), Brown University(USA), San Jose State University (USA), Queen Marys University (UK) and Bishkek Historical Museum(Kyrgyzstan), Sotheby's Art Institute (London) among others. She has also written institutional essays for FRAC Lorraine, 51st Venice Biennial, Sweeney Gallery, University of California (Riverside), Helsinki Photography Festival, CasaAsia and Informal Architectures (Plug in ICA/Black Dog). She holds a holds a Masters in Art History and Theory (20th century) (2003) and a BA (Hons) in English Literature and History of Art (2001) from Goldsmiths College, University of London.
