MP for Kensington, chair of the Intelligence and Security Committee and former Foreign Secretary
Malcom Rifkind was educated at George Watson's College and the University of Edinburgh, where he read law and political science, before becoming a lecturer at the University College of Rhodesia. He first entered parliament in 1974, when he became MP for Edinburgh Pentlands, and has since held a number of ministerial positions, including Secretary of State for Scotland (1986-1990), Secretary of State for Transport (1990-1992), and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (2005).
He has represented Kensington and Chelsea in parliament since May 2005 and following the changes to the constituency from the Boundary Commission, became MP for Kensington at the 2010 general election. Rifkind has written a number of books, including Conservative Britain in the 21st century (1996), and Towards 2000 (1988).
