Journalist and author
Melanie Phillips is a columnist and author well-known for her controversial articles on political and social issues. She read English at St Anne’s College, Oxford and began her journalistic career at the New Society magazine, before joining the Guardian in 1977. Having served as the paper’s News Editor, she left in 1993, and she currently writes for the Spectator and the Daily Mail. She was awarded the Orwell Prize for Journalism in 1994.
Phillips has become renowned for her controversial views on issues from climate change to homosexuality. Despite her opponents labelling her a conservative, she claims to defend authentic liberal values against the attempt to destroy western culture from within. She has written a number of books, including All Must Have Prizes (1998), America's Social Revolution (2001) and Londonistan: How Britain Is Creating a Terror State Within (2006).
