Award-winning journalist and documentary-maker
John Pilger is an award-winning journalist and film-maker. He began his career at the Sydney Sun and the Sydney Daily Telegraph in the late 1950s before moving to London in the 1960s and joining the Daily Mirror, where he became war correspondent. He later reported from countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, and India. He helped to found News on Sunday in 1987, but resigned as Editor-in-Chief before the paper's launch in April 1987. The paper was short-lived and publication ceased in November of the same year. Pilger has also worked as a reporter and documentary film-maker for Granada Television, Associated TeleVision, Carlton Television, and ITV. His books include The New Rulers of the World (2002), Aftermath: The Struggles of Cambodia and Vietnam (1981), and Freedom Next Time (2006).
Pilger has received numerous awards for his journalism, including the Sydney Peace Prize in 2009, the EMMA Media Personality of the Year in 2003, Reporters Sans Frontiers in 1990, and the Richard Dimbleby Award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 1991.
