Professor of philosophy, University of Cambridge
Onara O’Neill is a professor of philosophy at the University of Cambridge and President of the British Academy and chairs the Nuffield Foundation. She was formerly the Principal of Newnham College, Cambridge, and has held the positions of President of the Aristotelian Society, Chair of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, and Acting Chair of the Human Genetics Advisory Commission, and is currently the Chair of the Nuffield Foundation and a trustee of the Ditchley Foundation. She was made a life peer in 1999.
O’Neill is the author of a number of books on the subject of political philosophy and ethics, including Rethinking Informed Consent in Bioethics (2007) and Autonomy and Trust in Bioethics (2002).
