Artist
Mike Nelson studied at Reading University in the late 80s before completing an MA in Sculpture at Chelsea College of Art & Design in 1993. He is known for using everyday items to construct architectural, often labyrinthine, installations. His first solo exhibition, Charity Shop, opened in the Transmission Gallery in Glasgow in 1994. The Coral Reef (Matt’s Gallery, London, 2000) comprised a maze of corridors connecting a number of abandoned rooms for visitors to walk through. His other works include The Deliverance and The Patience (2001), and A Psychic Vacuum (2007).
Nelson has twice been nominated for the Turner Prize, in 2001 and 2007.
