Author and radio broadcaster
James Naughtie is a journalist and broadcaster, best known for presenting Radio 4’s Today programme and Bookclub. He began his career at the Aberdeen Press & Journal in the mid-1970s, before moving to the Scotsman in the late ‘70s, later becoming their Chief Political Correspondent. After a short period working for The Washington Post, he joined the Guardian in the mid-1980s, becoming their Chief Political Correspondent shortly afterwards. His first job in broadcasting came when he was appointed as presenter of The Week in Westminster. He joined The World At One in 1988, and has since hosted radio programmes such as Opera News, and television shows such as Proms.
Naughtie is currently the Chancellor of Stirling University, and sits on the advisory board of the British-American Project. He is the author of three books, including The Accidental American: Tony Blair and the Presidency (2004), and was the recipient of the Sony Radio Awards Radio Personality of the Year in 1991, and Voice of the Listener and Viewer Award in 2001.
