Sue Mayer

Director and Co-Founder of GeneWatch UK

Sue Mayer is the Co-Founder and Director of GeneWatch UK - a not-for-profit public interest group, which was formed in January 1998, with the aim of ensuring that genetic technologies are developed and used in the public interest and in a way that promotes human health, protects the environment and respects human rights and the interests of animals. Dr Mayer has Degrees in Veterinary Science and Pharmacology and a PhD in Veterinary Cell Biology from Bristol University. She has worked in veterinary practice, as a university lecturer, as Director of Science at Greenpeace UK and as a freelance consultant on science and policy issues. She is an honorary research fellow at the University of Lancaster, a senior research fellow in the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex, a trustee of Vetwork UK (an animal welfare charity), and a member of the Agriculture and Environment Biotechnology Commission.
