President of the Economic Policy Institute, Washington DC
Lawrence Mishel is a nationally recognised economist who is currently serving as President of the Economic Policy Institute, a progressive think-tank which seeks to advance the interests of American workers. Having received a PhD in Economics from the University of Wisconsin he joined the EPI in 1987 and was made President in 2002. He is the principle author of the institute’s biannual volume The State of Working America (published every other year since 1988), with his own expertise being in income distribution and poverty, labour markets and industrial relations.
Mishel is often called on to testify and provide economic briefings to members of Congress and appears regularly as a commentator in print and broadcast media.
