John R MacArthur is President and Publisher of Harper’s Magazine, the oldest continuously published monthly magazine in America. He has served in this role since 1983. MacArthur is also an award-winning journalist and author of You Can’t Be President: The Outrageous Barriers to Democracy in America (2008), The Selling of “Free Trade”: NAFTA, Washington, and the Subversion of American Democracy (2000), and the award-winning Second Front: Censorship and Propaganda in the Gulf War (1992). He writes a monthly column for the Providence Journal and, in French, for Le Devoir (Montreal).
