Founder of the 21st Century School
James Martin graduated from Keble College, University of Oxford with an MA and Doctorate in Physics. Before founding the 21st Century School in 2005, he was best known as the ‘Guru of the Information Age’ due to his progressive views about technology, and was also ranked 4th in Computer World’s 25th Anniversary Edition of most influential people in computer technology. The work of the 21st Century School builds on his earlier endowment to Oxford University of the James Martin Institute of Science and Civilisation (now called the Institute for Science, Innovation, and Society).
Martin is also a prolific author, having written over 100 books, one of which - The Wired Society: A Challenge For Tomorrow - earned him a Pulitzer Prize nomination in 1977. His book, The Meaning of the 21st Century (2007), is in the process of being filmed for public broadcast.
