Imran Khan is Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Movement for Justice party) and former captain of the Pakistani cricket team. He founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 1996 and was elected as Member of Parliament in October 2002 from his home constituency Mianwali. His aim has been to liberate the people of Pakistan from illiteracy, poor health and economic poverty. Mr Khan and his party led the movement for the restoration of the Chief Justice of Pakistan when he was removed by President Musharraf in March 2007. The movement continued until the bench restored him. He was arrested when he demanded restoration of the judiciary and reinstatement of the judges, who were all dismissed again by President Musharraf on November 3rd 2007. Mr Khan was charged with treason, a crime punishable by death but was released due to massive protests.
