Writer and broadcaster; Editor of Emel Magazine
Sarah Joseph is Editor of Emel, a lifestyle magazine with a Muslim focus, that was launched in 2003. Having converted to Islam at the age of sixteen, she went on to gain a BA in Religious Studies from King's College, London before conducting post-graduate research at the same institution. Shortly afterwards she became the first female editor of a major Muslim publication when she edited the groundbreaking and popular youth magazine, Trends. She has used her experience of two different cultures as the basis for much work on cross-culture toleration, lecturing on Islam both within the UK and internationally for twelve years, as well as appearing on a variety of television and radio programmes.
Joseph was the winner of the 1999-2000 Prince of Wales Chevening/King Faisal Foundation Scholarship and travelled to Saudi Arabia to pursue research in the theological perspectives of conversion, before returning to start the successful magazine Emel. She was awarded an OBE for services to 'faith dialogue' in 2004.
