Academy Award nominated film and opera director, screenwriter and author
Werner Herzog, Academy Award nominated film and opera director, screenwriter and author, most recently of Conquest of the Useless. Herzog grew up in a remote village in Bavaria and never saw any films, television, or telephones as a child. He started travelling on foot at the age of 14. He made his first telephone call at the age of 17. During high school he worked the night shift as a welder in a steel factory to produce his first film in 1961 at the age of 19. Since then he has produced and written more than 50 films, such as Aguirre, The Wrath of God, Last Words, Even Dwarfs Started Small, The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner, Nosferatu, Fitzcarraldo, Little Dieter Needs to Fly, Grizzly Man and most recently Cave of Forgotten Dreams.
On March 6th 2011, Werner Herzog will appear on a new episode of The Simpsons as a guest star in the role of a German pharma-industrialist. Herzog's latest ongoing project is filming inmates in Florida and Texas on death row.
