Economist
Robert Higgs studied economics at Johns Hopkins University and has since taught at the University of Washington, Lafayette College, Seattle University and the University of Economics, Prague, as well serving as a visiting scholar at the Universities of Stanford and Oxford. He was a Fellow of the Hoover Institute at Stanford and is currently a Senior Fellow at the Independent Institute, a libertarian think-tank based in Oakland, California. He has edited Independent Institute books on wide-ranging topics that include: Opposing the Crusader State (2007) The Challenge of Liberty (2006) and Re-Thinking Green, Hazardous to Our Health? (2005).
Known for his libertarian anarchism, Higgs is also the author of Neither Liberty Nor Safety: Fear, Ideology, and the Growth of Government (2007) and Against Leviathan: Government Power and a Free Society (2004). He writes popular articles for many newspapers and journals, and has received a number of awards, including the Gary Schlarbaum Award for Lifetime Defense of Liberty, and the Thomas Szasz Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Cause of Civil Liberties.
