Author, journalist, and literary critic
Writer, broadcaster, polemicist and literary critic, Christopher Hitchens' career spanned 40 years. His bestselling books included God is not Great (2007) and the memoir Hitch 22 (2010). He was an outspoken atheist and an Honorary Associate of the National Secular Society. After graduating from the University of Oxford, he worked for the Times Higher Education Supplement before moving to The New Statesman. He then emigrated to America, where he worked for The Nation. He wrote for a number of other publications, including Vanity Fair, and The Atlantic.
Among Hitchens' other books are Thomas Jefferson: Author of America (2005), and Why Orwell Matters (2002). He received the 1991 Lannan Literary Award for Nonfiction, and the 2007 National Magazine Award for Columns and Commentary for his work at Vanity Fair.
