Poet and author
Sunil Gangopadhyay has a masters degree in Bengali from the University of Calcutta. He helped to found the Bengali poetry magazine Krittibas in 1953, and has contributed to a number of Indian publications. In 2002 he was made Sheriff of Calcutta, and was elected president of Sahitya Akademi (India's National Academy of Letters) in 2008. Gangopadhyay has written a number of novels, including First Light and Those Days.
