Former British Ambassador to Syria and Saudi Arabia
Sir Andrew Green is a former British diplomat who held a number of posts in the Middle East during his 35 years of service. He joined the FCO in 1965 after studying at Magdalene College, Cambridge and serving a three year commission in the Royal Green Jackets. Along with posts in Washington, Paris and London, he served half his career in he Middle East. He was Ambassador in Syria (1991-1994), and then became Director of the Middle East, before being appointed Ambassador in Saudi Arabia until his retirement in 2000. Since then he has been involved in voluntary work: he is Chairman of Medical Aid for Palestinians and sits on the boards of the Sudan Peace Building Programme and Christian Solidarity Worldwide. He is also Chairman of the controversial anti-immigration group MigrationWatch UK, which has seen him feature regularly in the media.
