Feminist author, academic, and broadcaster
Germaine Greer was born in Melbourne, Victoria in Australia and spent her early years in an all-girl Catholic Academy. After attending Sydney and Melbourne Universities, she studied for her PhD at Newnham College, University of Cambridge.
Before her first book The Female Eunuch was published, Greer acted on television, wrote for journals, and lectured in English at Warwick University. She returned to Warwick in 1998, becoming a Professor of English and Comparative Literature Studies. In literary terms she is perhaps best known for The Female Eunuch, but has written a number of other books, including The Change: Women, Ageing, and the Menopause (1991) and Shakespeare’s Wife (2007). She is now a regular contributor to the Guardian, and often appears on television panel shows, most notably the BBC's Have I Got News For You, and QI.
