Author of the best-selling Eat, Pray, Love (2006)

Elizabeth Gilbert is the author of Eat, Pray, Love (2006), a seven million selling memoir which chronicles her escape to Italy, India and Indonesia after a difficult, mid-life divorce. Born in Connecticut, Gilbert attended New York University and began writing for magazines such as Spin and GQ as well as penning her short story collection Pilgrims (1997). She has also authored the books Stern Men (2000), an account of Lobster fisherman in Maine, The Last American Man (2002), a biography of the woodsman Eustace Conway and her recent Committed: A Sceptic Makes Peace with Marriage (2010). An account of her work in a Lower East Side bar written for GQ served as the basis for the popular film Coyote Ugly, whilst Eat, Pray, Love is scheduled to be released as a film starring Julia Roberts in August 2010.
