English artist Antony Gormley is best known for his large-scale works such as Angel of the North and Event Horizon, which "explore the collective body and the relationship between self and other". He was awarded the Turner Prize in 1994 and has been a Royal Academician since 2003. In July 2009 Gormley presented One & Other, a Fourth Plinth Commission, an invitation for members of the public, chosen by lot, to spend one hour on the vacant plinth in Trafalgar Square, London. His work has been exhibited at major art venues like the Tate, Hayward and Serpentine galleries in the UK and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
