Actor, writer, comedian, and broadcaster
Stephen Fry is a prominent intellectual and public figure, known for his acting and hosting roles in British television shows and, more recently, as the self-proclaimed King of Twitter. Fry began his career whilst attending the University of Cambridge, where he read English Literature. While at Cambridge he joined the Footlights theatrical club where he met his future comedy partner Hugh Laurie. The pair rose to prominence in the 1980's with their sketch show A Bit of Fry and Laurie, and starred in the television adapations of P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster books in the early nineties.
Fry, along with Laurie, also appeared extensively in the television comedy series Blackadder, has hosted a number of television and radio panel shows, and has presented several documentary series, including 'Stephen Fry in America' (2008) and nature series 'Last Chance to See' (2009). He has also appeared in a number of films, including 'A Fish Called Wanda' (1985), and Wilde (1997), in which he portrayed Oscar Wilde.
Fry is the author of several novels, including The Liar (1993), and The Hippopotamus (1994), as well as guide to writing poetry The Ode Less Travelled (2005).
