Former US Ambassador to the EU
Stuart Eizenstat is an American statesman and lawyer. He graduated cum laude in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, whilst being awarded the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa, and gained his Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 1967.
Eizenstat has held a number of key senior positions within three US administrations. From 1977 to 1981 he was Chief Domestic Policy Advisor to President Carter, and Executive Director of the White House Domestic Policy Staff. He served under President Clinton as Deputy Secretary of the Treasury (1999-2001), Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business, and Agricultural Affairs (1997-1999), and as the Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade at the International Trade Administration (1996-1997). He has also served as the US Ambassador to the European Union (1993-1996) and as co-chairman of the European-American Business Council. He has been a member of the Board of Advisors of the Global Panel Foundation.
