Explorer who has covered much of the world in the last 25 years, usually on horseback. She is the author of nine books and founder of the Dodwell Trust in Madagascar.
Christina Dodwell’s family tradition of travel gave her a ready excuse for adventure, her first journey lasted over three years through Africa, followed by a two-year journey to Papua New Guinea, travelling mostly by horse and dugout canoe. Many journeys followed spanning 25 years and covering much of the world, usually on horseback. Author of nine travel books, she also made 40 radio documentaries for BBC Radio 4 and three films, winning a BAFTA TV award and a Gold Medal. She has lectured at the Smithsonian Institute and the Explorers Club in USA, and the RGS and RSGS in UK.
Dodwell founded a charity in 1992, The Dodwell Trust, which runs projects for education and community development in Madagascar. Her most recent journey was in June 2010 riding horseback in the mountains of Madagascar, to rediscover ancient sacred sites and to train local people in eco-tourism.
