David M Buss received his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley, and has held professorial positions at Harvard University, University of Michigan, and University of Texas at Austin. He served as President of the Human Behavior and Evolution Society (HBES), the Editor of The Handbook of Evolutionary Psychology, and has authored more than 200 scientific publications. Among his awards are the APA Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology and the APA Distinguished Scientist Lecturer. His most well-know books are: The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating (2003); The Dangerous Passion: Why Jealousy is as Necessary as Love and Sex (2001); The Murderer Next Door: Why the Mind is Designed to Kill (2006); and Evolutionary Psychology: The New Science of the Mind (2008). His book Why Women Have Sex (2009, with Dr Cindy Meston), explores the hidden complexities of women’s sexual motivation from psychological, clinical, physiological, and evolutionary perspectives.
