Botanist, author and broadcaster
David Bellamy began his career as a botanist in 1967 as an environmentalist consultant. Among many other numerous positions, he founded the Conservation Foundation charity in 1982, and was the President of Watch (1982-2005) and the Wildlife Trust Partnership (1996-2005). His environmental campaigning and strong views resulted in his imprisonment in 1983 for his protest against the construction of a dam in Tasmania. He is the recipient of the U.N.E.P Global 500 Award, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award for Underwater Research, and BAFTA.
As an author on the subject of ecology, he has written over 90 scientific papers and 40 books, including his autobiography, A Natural Life (2003). Throughout his career as a broadcaster he has also presented over 400 television programmes on evironmental issues.
