Part of the Sky Arts Artichoke Salon Series at Tate. A public conversation at Tate Modern about the nature and use of public space.
Is public art any more than an excuse for second-rate sculptors and failed performers to clutter up our streets and disrupt the traffic? Artichoke, producers of live events such as Antony Gormley’s One & Other and The Sultan’s Elephant, are collaborating with Sky Arts, Tate and Intelligence Squared to mount a series of three public conversations about the nature and use of public space. The first, chaired by curator and writer Tim Marlow, explores the politics of the public domain, with a panel of provocative speakers considering who controls our public space and whether artists have the licence to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
