Speakers: Don Paterson
Don Paterson, writer, poet, and jazz musician, delivers a conversational and amusing recital, beginning with three Shakespeare sonnets, including the much loved Sonnet 18 Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?, and then moves on to some of his own. Paterson’s choice of theme varies, and he considers a diverse range of emotional reflections on modern life: from frivolous and light-hearted to sombre and moving. His sonnet House is an amusing take on what he ironically refers to as the ‘golden age of American drama,’ and he then concludes on an honest and poignant ‘unconscious eulogy’, simply called Miguel.
