02 Dec 2008
This debate took place in New York on December 2nd 2008.
Arguing in favour of the motion are Jacob Weisberg and Simon Jenkins.
Jacob Weisberg argues that Bush made the wrong choices over key reforms, failed in his response to Hurricane Katrina and his actions in the War on Terror made the world a worse place.
Simon Jenkins explains that The American President is not only the President of the United States of America, but also, in many ways the de facto ‘President of the Rest of the World’. Bush led the world in the wrong direction and the consequences of 9/11 have been catastrophic.
Arguing against the motion are Jacob Weisberg and Simon Jenkins.
Bill Kristol argues that the Bush has made a lot of tough decisions, and because of his actions in Iraq, the world is a safer place. Furthermore, he can’t be blamed for economic problems, many of which were initiated by his predecessor Bill Clinton.
Karl Rove agrees, and tells us not to be fooled by the furore over the WMDs: Bush got it right on education, and his economics was up to scratch.
